What to expect at my workshops
The workshop will typically begin with an introduction to the materials and tools used in willow weaving. We will start with the basics, including how to manipulate and shape the materials
As the activity progresses, you will learn more advanced techniques, learning how to form the shape and create the detail.
I will provide tips and tricks as well, and you will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions
The workshops that I offer are suitable for beginners as well as those of you who have some experience and want to try something different.
Working with willow requires a degree of hand dexterity and strength, as we use lots of twisting, pulling movements, some activities for large items, including creating animals with four legs, also involve standing and bending and can use a lot of energy.
My approach is to encourage and enable you to explore different ways of making. I take a practical approach to teaching where we work in stages. I do not provide written notes, as we all have different ways of learning. I prefer to adapt to the needs of the individuals within the group.
If you're hesitant to take on making a larger item for your first workshop, there are plenty of smaller items to choose from.
Please note that, as we all work at different speeds, you may not fill in your artwork during the workshop. My aim is that you will be at the stage where you know how to complete it, at home and carry on at your own leisure
If you have particular learning requirements and feel that it would be useful for me to know so that I can assist you, please feel free to contact me in advance to allow me to prepare.
You are welcome to take your own notes and photos as a memory aid if it helps you.
Please note that, as this is a group workshop, if you find it easier to learn in a quiet space then this may be a challenge for you. The activity is not a replacement for personal tuition. Please get in touch with me before booking a place to discuss if you're not sure.
All of the workshops include materials, a selection of examples of work at different stages of completion, printed reference images, the use of tools, and refreshments.
You will need to bring your lunch if you are attending a full-day workshop.
